How to write an essay introduction

Essay writing is a type of work which has to be correctly planned and organized. One of the main parts of an essay is an appropriately penned introduction. It is an integral essay component, which makes reader excited about the essay, and urges him to keep reading.

It’s truly valuable to write introduction correctly. This will allow you not only thrill the reader, invite him to embark upon the journey you’ve prepared for him, but also set the tone for the rest of the text, pre-determine whether the rest of the essay will be too bleak in comparison to the main body of the paper, or well-deserving the intriguing introduction.

Functions of the introduction: #8211; It must create first impression of the paper; #8211; It must contain the hook (some point which will be developed further;) #8211; It must include the main information; #8211; It must have a good thesis statement #8211; It must be concise but specific

If the introductory paragraph leaves the reader confused, instead of intrigued, and positively puzzled by what’s going to be told next,he will not read any further, so it is necessary to include a hook in an essay introduction, which immediately grab reader’s attention. If the first sentence is logically, and skillfully tied tothe remaining part of the introductory paragraph, there would be nothing wrong with using it as bait, right?

There are different ways to start an introduction:

1. With a question. This will make reader question himself and think about the issue.

2. With an interesting, little-known fact. It will stimulate reader to learn more about that fact and the topic.

3. With a meaningful quote. It will help you to broaden reader’s thoughts.

4. With a shocking story. This way of starting an introduction will entertain reader as much as possible.

You must fight the desire to make your first sentence incredibly mysterious, appealing, and intriguing, but devoid of any kind of meaning, and logical connection to the second one. Yes, you want to instantly attract your reader with the very first sentence. But you haven’t attracted him enough to make the first sentence just a shiny sparkling thing without any meaning.

The introduction is the home of the thesis statement, coherent formulation of the main idea, and goal of the entire essay. Keeping the reader intrigued doesn’t mean being evasive, it means being creative, and clever with laconically, and coherently expressing your thoughts.

The introduction should not only explain what will be discussed, but also tell you exactly how you will talk about it. Your writing style – is another factor that can attract or repel the reader. If the introduction language will be simple and easy, your readers will read to the end of the text most likely than if the text will be confusing and “jump” from topic to topic.

Also, do not forget about creating a good thesis statement. Properly written statements reveal the main idea of your document. Thesis statements are clear and are essentially helping to understand the topic and the document itself, as well as your position on the subject.

Introduction is a real arena for your creativity going wild. It attracts the reader, and prepares him for the main part of your essay.
